Perth through the days, #3: Fremantle

We knew we wanted to go back to "Freo", as it's called in this area. Today was our first day without a schedule, and we took advantage of it to first, sleep in, and second, go to Freo.

Now there were some complications, as there often are in these things. We took the (free) bus to the downtown, walked for a while and tried to find the train terminal. The photo is of a sculpture downtown.

Once we found it, we had to buy a ticket (it's not free to go to Freo). Turns out the machines don't accept foreign credit cards. They accept bills, but only 5's or 10's (the bank machine gave us 50's). There were two guys sitting in the booth, but they, it turns out, are security folks and don't give change. Something of a catch-22. It took us a while, but we got it sorted out, and were on our way.

Unfortunately, my foot started to hurt, so walking was difficult. Well, that left us with only one choice: to eat.

Gino's was a lovely place, and we had more than enough food there for the day. However, after a walk through the town, we stopped for an "afflagato", which is an espresso poured over ice cream. Yum.

Some more walking (hobbling on my part), and we ended up, as per plan, at the waterfront in time for the sunset. a few pictures to impress.

On our way back, after this show, to the train station, we spied a tunnel with a resident piano, so Darlene took up the challenge.

But the train station needed money to get us back, This one has a machine to change $50 bills, so we put one in, and it felt like we had one the lottery: we got back 25, $2 coins! We'll be buying a lot of things with cash for the next while, I guess.

A wonderful day.
